Rebecca and I recently purchased a new home in St. Petersburg, Florida. We sold all of our belongings when we moved from Canada, so our new home was a blank canvas. Over the past month we have been working to furnish our residence.

The home is a 3-bedroom, but we wanted to make one of the rooms an office. Although we advertise our Airbnb listing as a single private room rental, we are open to guests staying in the office on occasion. I decided to look for an office couch that could double as a futon in case any guests wanted to sleep in our third room.

I thoroughly enjoy contemporary design, so I wanted the office couch to reflect my minimal style. Finding the right couch was a tough task given that I did not want to spend too much money. It’s pretty hard to find anything decent for under $500; however, I finally found a piece that matched my desired style and price-range.

We ended up purchasing the DHP Emily Splitback Futon – Grey Linen from Amazon for a whopping (wait for it…) $185! How much was shipping, you might ask? FREE (Amazon Prime)!

I’m going to go ahead and admit that my expectations were pretty low given the couch’s ridiculously cheap price. Surprisingly, though, the couch has over 1,100 reviews on Amazon and boasts a 4.1 star rating. That at least gave me a boost of confidence when placing my order.

The couch arrived about a week after placing my order on Amazon. It was neatly packaged–all the contents were actually zipped inside the couch. It took roughly 20 minutes to put together using the included tools (attaching the legs). Once put together I situated the couch in my office against the wall behind my computer. It is 71 inches long and fits perfectly in it’s assigned space.

I am thoroughly impressed with the overall design and quality of the DHP Emily Splitback Futon – Grey Linen. The grey linen looks great (it also comes in black and white leather). It is somewhat firm, but that’s okay given it’s not being used as our primary couch. There are no issues with the stitching–something that should be of concern given the low price.

For any Airbnb hosts looking to purchase a couch for their office, or possibly an additional room, I would highly recommend this specific piece by DHP. I actually like this couch so much that I’ve thought about purchasing the white one for my living room! It wouldn’t be my first choice as a bed, given that it is only 71 inches wide, but as an extra sleeper it works perfectly. DHP actually makes a matching chair that you can pair with the couch to create a sectional look, or even a larger sleeping area. I believe they are both the same price.
